Activity of the enzyme was inhibited not by protein or ascorbic acid, but by lead. 2) δAminolevulinic acid synthetase was activated compensatively by lead administration, ascorbic acid deficiency and low protein diet intake. 3) δ-Aminolevulinic acid dehydratase activity was inhibited severely by the administration of lead and mildly by the deficiency of ascorbic acid. From these findings, author concludes that the healing mechanism of protein in lead poisoned anemia is different from that of ascorbic acid.
