 note = {This article aims to reveal the significance of and problems with the discussions on core curricula for library science education that took place at a seminar held in 1963, and looks at those discussions in light of discussions recorded throughout the 1950s and 1960s. The author uses original documents, explains the objectives and activities of the seminar, examines details of the core curricula plans, and compares and contrasts the 1963 curricula with those proposed later.
　　The results highlight the significance of the seminar as the first organized postwar effort to produce a core curriculum based on then-existing programs for librarian education. The results also revealed the following three problems: the seminar members failed to determine detailed subject names in the curriculum plan, they did not include personnel of public libraries or of school libraries, and the members failed to refer to related documents that had been composed earlier.},
